seek and you shall NOT find

Zen
"A man who is seeking for realization is not only going round searching for his spectacles without realizing that they are on his nose all the time, but also were he not actually looking through them he would not be able to see what he is looking for!" - Ask the Awakened by Wei Wu Wei

So, is that saying that if a man decides to seek for realization, he has already discovered it?

The trouble is virtually no one can make that leap; they have to go through stages of development in order to appreciate what was there all along. Ken Wilber reader?

possibly... but possibly not. :)

My take is that it means "seeking" or "searching" does not help you "find", when it comes to self-knowledge, enlightenment, or spirituality. So, instead of "searching" in the way many spiritual folks do (going to live in solitude, getting a "guru" to "show you the way", or following a particular religion or philosophies of someone else), you must simply *see*... because as the quote seems to be getting at: it's already there if you just look properly.

Looking properly seems to be the toughest trick. Looking does not automatically lead to seeing. So, I try (and usually fail) to be as aware as possible of what's going on in my life, emotions, relationships, and thoughts from moment to moment. I probably won't become enlightened any time soon, but I try to achieve at least fleeting moments where my "spectacles" are *less* blurry. ;-}

Does that make any sense whatsoever? LOL

Doug - I'll have to check that out later. I'm *supposed* to be working at the moment. Thanks for the link!
