CFEclipse: Make Mark Drew Rich Campaign - you with me?

ColdFusion

I noticed from the hit counter (or whatever you call it) on the Adobe XML News Agrregator that in my previous entry on this, CFEclipse: Make Mark Drew Rich Campaign, got over 90 hits. Sadly, no responses/comments to that entry, so I'm super curious if anyone is with me on this? I was hoping for some response, even if it's something like, "you're crazy, Aaron, the point of free software is that you shouldn't have to pay for it. Like, duh!". ;)

So, my last attempt at encouragement is to say that I really think we can do something, together, to keep the CFEclipse gravy train chugging along. Each of needs to just give a little. I'm totally making numbers up here, but you'll get the idea:

I'm guessing there could be roughly 5,000 regular users of CFEclipse across the world. If we get the word out, and encourage our fellow CFE users to contribute to Mark Drew (http://www.cfeclipse.org/index.cfm?event=page&page=donations), then hopefully we get 1,000 of those 5,000 to donate an average of $10 each (about £5.00 GBP).

  • 1,000 * $10 = $10,000 obviously
  • but to dream a little: 2,000 * $50 = $100,000
  • and beyond...
So, the question remains: "you with me?"

I am still a HomeSite user through-and-through, but I think what Mark has done for the community is a great thing. Consider a donation submitted (ugg... beware of the US-UK currency rate!)

Ben - thanks! Your contributions means that much more since you're not even a CFE convert (yet!). And that GBP to USD conversion *is* nastier than I expected. My £50.00 GBP donation came out to roughly $101 USD. I plan to give more later... (perhaps every time a significant release is put out)...

Well, here's an opinion, though it may not be a positive one, but you asked, twice :-)

Maybe if Mark is tired of carrying the load of CFE development, it's time he passed the torch to someone who is eager to do it for free...

I didn't comment on last post, but you did trigger me to donate to CFEclipse :) So thanks for the gentle push.
